I have several different projects this semester. Some of my work concerns Shooter Bias, examining how race and manner of dress affect decisions to shoot at criminal suspects in a computer simulation. Another involves tracking how implicit race bias behaves during Barack Obama's presidency. A third deals with stereotype threat, and looking at how gender framing of word problems affects the performance of men and women in math. I'm also working on several projects examining antigay prejudice and stereotyping, including looking at the differences between race and orientation stereotyping, looking at the differences in prejudice and stereotyping of gay men vs. lesbians vs. bisexuals (in collaboration with Sabra Katz-Wise), and examining antigay prejudice and stereotyping across cultures (in collaboration with Brooke Wilken and Dr. Yuri Miyamoto). In addition, I am in collaboration with Dr. Tim Rogers on a project examining whether cognitive pathways for social groups are the same as cognitive pathways for other types of semantic associations. I am supervising an undergraduate, Esther Tebbe, whose senior thesis involves prejudice against transgender individuals. |
